It seems like every week there is another new video that surfaces with amazing footage of a basketball play. This video is no exception. My cousin sent me the link and it is perhaps the craziest of trick shots that I’ve ever seen. Already people are claiming its fake. I would like to think its real. Everything isn’t a set up and doesn’t have some hidden underlying purpose. The lebron dunk tape incident was not some Nike stunt to increase Lebron’s hype. He has plenty of it and was seen at 3 media televised events in the two weeks in which the tape was hidden. With that said heres the video. What do you think about it? Now I’m not some insurance broker or some retirement investor who wants NBA players to throw money at me…well not entirely, but this is an interesting story. After all, NBA players make millions of dollars fairly quickly
and are seen living lavish lives so how could they possibly become broke 5 years into retirement?
The fact is a lot of celebrities like to “over hype” their wealth. They land an NBA contract and go spend all of it before they have earned it on the court. The lifestyle they live at the time is rich and includes multiple vacation homes and Ferraris in their driveway, but the question is whether they will be able to continue that lifetyle when those paychecks stop coming in. According to a study by mediatakeout.com from 2008, nearly 60% of NBA players go bankrupt after 5 years of retirement because they don’t save their money. They tend to mistake how expensive upkeep is and providing for a family and a posse and before long they need another career.

Awhile back Lebron James hosted his annual skills camp where he was dunked upon by Xavier’s Jordan Crawford. This tape was promptly confiscated by big brother… er Nike? Everyone knows this story. What you probably don’t know is that TMZ claims that they have footage of this infamous dunk. (Yea, it’s that TMZ. You know, the celebrity stalking e-tabloid.) Apparently not only do they have footage, but they will debuting it live todat at 6:45 est. That’s when we find out if this is actually a big deal.
As I mentioned once before, I don’t think this is a big deal no matter what the talking-head pundits claim. They should’ve spun this positively instead of opting for this ridiculous gag order. They, Nike and Lebron, have armies of publicists and PR people, don’t tell me they couldn’t have done it. “Anything’s Possible” would work. Lebron is human afterall despite all the evidence suggesting otherwise.

For the last month we have been running a poll here that begs the question, Who will be a better NBA point guard between Ricky Rubio and Brandon Jennings. We just had to throw that question to our readers after Jen
nings publicy dismissed Rubio’s hype and ability on the court long before the NBA draft. Then as we all know, Rubio was drafted 5th overall to the Minnesota Timberwolves while Jennings was taken at the 10th spot to the Milwaukee Bucks. After a few NBA summer league games word is that Jennings is looking solid and quite possibly like the player he describes himself to be, which is bascially: amazing, unstoppable, Jason Kidd in his prime-esk. Meanwhile Rubio is deciding if he will be earning enough money to play here in the U.S. since part of his contract goes to his old team overseas…
Personally I expect Rubio and want Rubio to be a better NBA player. I’ve heard too much about Jennings off the court to have respect for him anymore. Either way, here is what you guys thought. In a survey of 40 participants: 75% or 30 particpants feel Rubio will be a better point guard while 25% or 10 participants feel Jennings will rise up.

It was easy for us to decide who was most deserving of The Handle of the Week award this Friday, Peter Robert Casey. (Handle of the Week award is described at the top of this page in more detail… look above) Peter is a one of a kind basketball intellectual as well as a networking king. He is all over the internet and has 50k plus followers on Twitter. He also does a great job with his blog, PeterRobertCasey.com, where he recently interviewed Claude Johnson, the founder and president of Black Fives, Inc. Make sure you check out how that Q. and A. went with Mr. Johnson over there and while your at it read about New Heights.
Our Handle of the Week award goes to… Peter Robert Casey.

There is plenty of free-agency and summer league news, and all the great off-season speculation that goes with it. There are stories mentioning the Clippers interest in AI, even though they already have a complete back court. There are the reports of Anthony Randolph scoring 48 against the Bulls in summer-league. There is also the speculation and rumors about Lamar Odom’s dissolving free agency talks… But really, I’m sick of all that stuff right now, and I’m sure some of you are too. So I give you this, one of the best basketball related pranks of all time. (I’m sure some of you have seen this.)
The clip is about 6 minutes long, but if you haven’t seen it yet it’s probably worth it.

News has circulated about Xavier guard Jordan Crawford dunking on Lebron James in Akron, Ohio at James’ summer league camp. Rumor has it that as soon as soon as Crawford surprised James with this amazing dunk that Nike representatives went over and confiscated all the tapes and possible video footage from anybody who could have possibly recorded Crawford’s move. Nobody is allowed to dunk on the King in his own house. Too bad we have the footage of Crawford doing so.

Arizona’s Jordan Hill and Arizona State’s James Harden have inked contracts for their respected NBA teams. H
ill was the 8th overall pick in the 2009 NBA draft for the New York Knicks while James Harden was the 3rd overall pick for the Oklahoma City Thunder. Details of Harden’s contract were not released yet however it is rumored that Hill’s contract looks something like 4.3 million over the next 2 years. Personally I’m still waiting to hear news about Chase Budinger, another former ex-zona player and Jeff Teague, my underdog pick to turn up huge in the league.
