Ricky Rubio Vs. Brandon Jennings

Brandon Jennings made it clear to the media recently that he thinks Ricky Rubio is overrated. Jennings said Rubio was all hype and that he had no potential to grow as a player. Jennings based his comments around the fact that Rubio has played  international professional basketball for many years now and therefore has reached his maximum talent level. Jennings says he is a better shooter than Rubio and that he still has room to grow as a player where Rubio doesn’t. Obviously Jennings also needs to mature and grow off the court as well since he is already making enemies before playing a single minute in the NBA. Perhaps Jennings will jump on a motorcycle, crash, and end his basketball career like  Jason Williams of Duke did early in his professional career? I’m not hoping for it but even Lebron James isn’t this full of himself after dominating the league for a few years.  Watch yourself Jennings, Karma is no joke.

Luke Walton Calls Out Bill

In the words of Coolio and to summarize what Luke Walton said at the Los Angeles Lakers celebration parade yesterday, “Ain’t no party like a West coast party cuz a West coast party don’t stop.” That’s right Luke spoke into the microphone at USC ‘s coliseum football stadium and said that his father Bill, can no longer brag about his championship ring with the Boston Celtics from when he played professional ball. Luke even went on to say his ring with the Lakers beats out Bill’s ring since Bill’s ring came as a result of playing on an East coast team; hints the line from Coolio. Well be sure to find footage of Bill’s response to his son’s comments once it surfaces. Bill is just too great of a personality, not to include in the future on this site. Just look at the faces of the commentators sitting next to him in this following photo. You can tell that he never wonders off topic…Bill-Walton-R

Parody of Kobe and Lebron Puppet Commercials

It’s not often that a commerical or series of commercials earns as much hype as the Kobe and Lebron Nike puppet commercials has over the past few months. I think it’s safe to say all sports fans, basketball or not, has seen these Nike ads or at least heard about them. Recently it was brought to attention that a parody was created of the puppet ad in which Kobe and Lebron have to babysit lil Dez their downstairs neighbor. This remix will of course not make it to television as it is classified as inappropriate so I’m glad you found it here. It’s a funny one.

Player’s Poll

SqueezeColumnsThe NBA finals has concluded. Congrats to the Los Angeles Lakers for a record 15th title. Look out for a celebration parade in L.A. tomorrow, Wednesday the 17th if you live in the area. As seen with footage of Mark Madsen giving a celebration shout out (see below), they tend to be an event you wouldn’t want to miss.

In other news I wanted to post the results of our most recent Player’s poll. It seems the majority of votes preferred the Orlando Magic to win but felt the Lakers had what it takes. Those fans were correct. If you have any suggestions for the next Player’s poll please let me know.

  1. 58% of voters felt the Lakers would win/wanted the Magic to win.
  2. 35% of voters felt the Lakers would win/wanted the Lakers to win.
  3. 7% of voters felt the Magic would win/wanted the Magic to win.
  4. 0% of voters felt the Magic would win/wanted the Lakers to win.

Some Thoughts

The finals are over and the Yankees are champions!  Excuse me, I mean the Lakers.  Kobe deserves props.  Hopefully now he can stop scowling and relax that painful underbite.  Moving on.

It’s the offseason!  Only two and half months of boredom.  (Unless you’re a Padres fan, in which case it’s two and half months of agony.)  Then football season starts, and before any of us know it, basketball will be here again.  Until then, it’s time to address the draft, rumor mill, and all the other off-season activities.

ShaqtusAs Mr. Gomez pointed out, ESPN is reporting that talks have begun between the Suns and Cavaliers regarding the big saguaro, the Shaqtus himself, Shaquille O’Neal.  As currently constructed, the rumors suggest that Ben Wallace, and Sasha Pavolovic would be exchanged for Shaquille “the big aristotle” O’Neal.  The Suns would be freed of their largest contract; while the Cavaliers would immediately bolster their inside presence.  Adding to the intrigue, Ben Wallace mentioned retirement after the Cavs elimination from the playoffs.  It’s a chance for the Suns to save even more money, with a potential buyout.  In all reality the Suns’ interest is purely financial.  Shaq is 37 and can’t be good for more than one or two more solid years.  The Cavs obviously feel they are close but can Shaq physically hold up?  If he is the revitalized player we saw this past year then the Cavs will be sitting pretty.

In other news, free-agent talk is heating up.  Lamar Odom and Trevor Ariza are both free-agents and will likely seek big contracts, meaning the NBA Champs may be forced to choose between the two.  Hedo Turkoglu’s representation said they would test the waters.  Ben Gordon is a free agent, as is Ron Artest.  A couple other notables: Shawn Marion and Allen Iverson.

I’ll take a look at the draft soon, but that’s all for now.

Charles Barkely Calls Himself a Dumbass?

The reason Charles Barkely is such a funny NBA analyst starts with the fact that he says what ever is on his mind. Some basketball fans I’ve spoken with insist that he has been drinking before or during his segments on TNT’s pre-game, half-time, and post game show and sometimes I consider this a possibility. Either way, Barkely adds so much as a spokes person for the NBA because one way or the other he makes things interesting. Below I found some footage where he simply calls himself a “dumbass” on the air. Perhaps that coffee cup that he sips from so often isn’t what it appears to be…

Kazaam!!! Lebron and Shaq Together in Cleveland

kazaam-shaq-shaquille-oneal-sunsWow what a story this will be if a trade between Phoenix and Cleveland puts Shaquille O’neal in a Cavaliers uniform next to his buddy Lebron James next year. My immediate thoughts tell me Shaq loves the spot light and values his reputation as one of the most dominant big men to play the game. It seems he will do anything to further his career. After all if this trade works out, Cleveland will make the fifth city that The Big Diesel has played for in his career. Normally the league’s best players stand still during trades but Shaq makes it clear through his 7 foot 300 plus pound frame and booming voice that he gets what he wants and he doesn’t want to play for losing teams. He would rather pack his bags for the Eastern Conference, provide impressive interior play for the Cavaliers next year, take a back seat to the King himself (a.k.a Lebron James), make it to the NBA Finals to face his old team The Lakers, and rage on skinny Pao Gasol and youngin’ Andrew Bynum in the post on national television for a series to ultimately make Kobe Bryant admit he is still the most dominant big man in the league today. Based on history I’m guessing this trade is much more imminent that ESPN reporters explain. All Shaq has to say to make it happen is: Kazaam.

A Moment with Brandon Jennings

What happened to the best player to come out of high school last year? He failed academically to make it into the University of Arizona and charged over to Italy to grab some gourmet pasta, bread with butter, and a professional contract playing for Rome is what happened. That’s right, Brandon Jennings the number one high school prospect last year according to multiple sources, failed academically to make it into college. So instead he went with his family overseas and didn’t “waste” his time at a University. Time in a classroom without a projector showing highlights of a basketball game is considered wasteful to professional basketball players that pay their agents to think and act intelligently in their interests. So Jennings played ball in Italy this past year and with new eligibility has entered himself into the 2009 NBA draft. What exactly did life consist of for this star while he was away from home? “We” check in with Jennings below. P.S. Bring back that fade cut son!

Here’s to you, Lakers Fans

I’ve been saving this one for a little time but I feel it is now an appropriate time to pull it out since according toYahoo, the Los Angeles Police department is already preparing for a Lakers celebration parade. This is for you mad dog. Viewer discretion is advised.
